Who We Are
The NZ Pain Foundation was setup in 2013 to help people who suffer from mental and physical pain. Currently over 20% of the population suffer from common pain complaints such as headache, migraine, low back pain, neck pain, anxiety and depression with no answers. Most do not even know what is the cause of their symptoms. Not knowing the cause of your symptoms reduces your chance of managing your pain.
The NZ Pain Foundation was setup by Dr Giresh Kanji after he completed a PhD, investigating how chronic pain spreads and amplifies with time. The Adrenaline Model of Headache Causation was formed which provides new information and directions for research for common conditions. He performed a clinical trial that showed regular attendance at a sauna was as effective as mainstream medication for people suffering from chronic tension-type headache. Research on simple self treatments is lacking in the medical literature due to insufficient funding as they cannot generate profits Isabel Marant Shoes UK as is the case with pharmaceuticals.
The Foundation will undertake research to investigate simple self treatments based on the cause of these conditions for people suffering from low back pain, neck pain, migraine, depression and obesity. The research will be conducted by the Wellington Education and Self Treatment (WEST) Research Group in conjunction with Massey University. The foundation will fund six masters students over the next few years to complete this research.
The New Zealand Pain Foundation is committed to quality assurance. The Foundation is governed by a dedicated Trust Board. Our stakeholders include patients, health professionals, local and national government. The Foundation aims to provide education to our stakeholders in the coming years.
